We have finally been re-united with the campervan after waiting nearly two weeks for the V5C document. Dimiter picked it up from the Varna sorting office this morning and then we met near Balchik (at a well known migration bottle neck) to pick it up. Then we had to drive across the Romanian border (took an hour to clear customs) back to Constanta to drop off the hire car, pick up the van and then drive back across the border to Bulgaria. Alls well that ends well and we got back in time to set up the sound recording equipment and put the moth trap out.
The campervan in Bulgaria- finally!
Balchik raptor viewpoint. We met Dimiter here to pick up the documents and did a quick sky watch too. 5 Lesser Spotted Eagle, 2 Montagu's Harrier, 1 Buteo sp, 1 Levant Sparrowhawk, 1 Sparrowhawk sp, 1 Hobby, 2 Kestrel, 100+ Bee-eaters, Alpine Swifts and hirundines. Also 3 Rollers in the area. Cape Kaliakra is in the back ground. The soaring birds mainly pass in land of the Cape. There is a bottle next near Balchik and the main bottle neck in Bulgaria is near Bourgas. Interesting that the soaring birds do not follow the coastline.
Instead of camping we've been glamming it up in a local guesthouse studio. Its been handy having decent internet. We've got one more full day in this area before back on the road on Sunday. The whole idea of this trip was to save money back from the drive here by camping- it has not gone to plan and we've nearly blown the entire six week budget already in hire cars and accommodation. Hoping to win back some ground in the next three weeks with wild camping.
