Bulgaria, July 2022, day six: Rosy Starlings

The last full day of this short working break. After an early morning session at the project site we went to Kavarna to pick up Anton's girlfriend Mia and then after buying some snorkelling gear went to check out the Rosy Starlings at Cape Kaliakra (background on this here). Lots of juveniles out in the open now.

After lunch at Tango we then went back to Yailata rocky beach but unfortunately the sea conditions were a bit rough and not great for snorkelling. We did find a nice melanistic Dice Snake though.

After packing up the project site, we did a bit round the village before spending the evening at Lake Durankulak looking for more Spadefoots, which was unsuccessful and also surprising as this is supposed to be the key area for them.

The juveniles are out now
The Common Starling situation is a bit complex in Bulgaria with potentially two or three different races including vulgaris, tauricus and purpurascens which occur in the surrounding region
Med Gulls were moving north along the coast

Rocky shoreline at Yailata
No more Spadefoots unfortunately but we did find a few Green Toads
