Big Night, The Old Vic

The heatwave peaked yesterday and last night but has broken today. Last night was the biggest moth night of the year so far with 105 species of nearly 250 moths. In the last two days, of up to 32 C during the day and 14 C at night, we've had 134 species taking the moth year list to 235 and the all time site list to 523 (started the year on 485).

Had three traps out last night (the MV, the heath trap and the home made actinic) plus the pheromone lures out during the day.

BBQ and inflatable swimming pool in the garden is now synonymous with big moth time. A great night!

Red-tipped Clearing. Top of the dream list and attracted to the API (which it shouldn't usually be but I had just swapped it over from TIP so presumably still emitting that too ) . What a stunner!
Currant Clearwing- two of these. Another lifer. Attracted to TIP.
Poplar Kitten- I went for Poplar rather than Sallow as it was noticeable large and despite appearing worn/ washed out had a rather straight distal border to the dark cross band.
Scarce Silver Lines- always welcome
I've gone for Anania fuscalis
Presumably a worn Fenland Pearl
The first Lackey of the year
Hopefully plenty more nights like this to come as we are now in peak season. Pine (2), Poplar (3), Privet (4), Elephant (9) and Small Elephant Hawkmoths (2) last night.
