I put the actinic heath trap on the mound overlooking 100 acre last night and had a lot more than in the MV at the obs windows. I really do need to get a generator for the MV and get the traps out within the SINC more as obviously will be a lot more out in the field across different habitats rather than just a fixed position. Might try and organise something for Moth Night which this year is between 27th and 29th August.
Here's a few highlights and tentative identifications. Full list of moths and butterflies recorded at the farmlands during this heatwave HERE. 130 species in total.
Flounced Rustic - no it's a Nutmeg
For some reason this new blogger interface won't allow me to write captions under photos so after Flounced Rustic which isn't one, it's a Nutmeg (thanks Billy!) : 1) Looks more like Agriphila selasella than the commoner tristella 2) looks like Prays ruficeps 3-5) I think these are all Cochylis molliculana (rather than C,hybridella that we usually get) 6) A Parornix sp 7) Dichrorampha sp 8) Calamotropha paludella 9) Buccalatrix ulmella 10) Bryotropha domestica 11) Bud moth, Spilonota ocellana 12) Plain Pug 13) a monopis sp 14) Cydia ulicetana 15) Bud moth again 16-19) More of the interesting by-catch at the moment, I presume the final image is a micro caddis . 16 and 17 are Sexton beetles, 16 is Nicrophorus vespillo and 17 is probably Nicrophorus interruptus (thanks Roger Booth aka Beetlejuice) Thanks Billy for tidying this up too!
