Beddington Farmlands visit

Great to do some birding at Beddington again yesterday. Work was quiet in London so I managed to get a few free hours in the afternoon before our xmas work do. Met up with Zach (Sonar), Arjun (Arjun Tatus) and Dave Warren. Highlights included 1st-winter Caspian Gull, 3 Jack Snipe, 7 Water Pipit, 10 Wigeon , 1 Stonechat, 1 Shelduck, 2 Green Sandpiper and 32 Lapwing.

First-winter Caspian Gull - the Czech Republic ringed bird that's been around for a bit
Male Stonechat
Male Shelduck, Shelducks are the first species that return to the farmlands after a period of absence (moult migration in their case),  ahead of the next breeding season (and will attempt to breed). In some ways it's the first 'Spring migrant'.
Lapwings in moon light- the days are so short now. Not long before the Winter Solstice (5 days away) and the journey to Spring begins.
