Boomers Blog

I am acutely aware that this blog is becoming a bit of a 'boomers blog' featuring garden birds, wildlife gardening and birds seen distantly from an RSPB hide.  It used to feature updates on foreign trips to the tropics and the four corners of the earth , pioneering and exploring in the Western Palearctic, finding rarities, running from the police in acts of rebellion, being persecuted by Viridor bosses and council officials, upsetting boomer birders and Victorian natural history societies, cutting edge birding articles and generally stuff that was about as exciting and dangerous as something as steady and safe that birding and nature is. Anyway, what with covid restrictions and new babies things have certainly got less exciting in many ways but in others way I'm also quite enjoying being dull and boring. Dare to be dull as the old saying goes and indeed I am. It's more frightening in some ways to  pass a whole week  pottering around, reading and doing chores- in fact it's terrifying! I'm enjoying the buzz. Here's more boomering from the Old Vic garden.  Highlight was a male Blackcap in the poplars behind the garage. Hope it gets on the feeders .

Distant Golden Plovers presumably moving from nearby Oakley Airfield

There are still moths out there- December moth and Chestnut last night in the milder conditions
