Birding: Balkan Ecology Project Day Four

Shipka Area Birding Spots

Spent today looking at some of the best birding areas nearby. Basically the whole area is great but there's a few main areas and hotspots. Today we had a look at a few areas (interesting that migrants are using the area) :

Plot 2 Area (West of Shipka): 1 male Goshawk, 1 Common Buzzard, 20 Yellow Wagtails over, 3 Tree Pipit over, 1 Syrian Woodpecker, singing Woodlark, Crested Lark, Skylarks, Black Redstart, 2 Chiffchaff, Tree Sparrows, 5 Chaffinch, 10 Greenfinch, 10 Goldfinch,  5 Linnet, 1 Serin, 1 Hawfinch

Sheynovo Lake: 15 White Stork circling, 40+ House Martin, 20+ Swallow, 1 Hoopoe, 3 Syrian Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Middle Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker, 10+ Nightingale, 5 Black-headed Wagtail, 1 Fieldfare, Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Wood Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Pied Flycatcher, Nuthatch, 1 Reed Bunting

Shipka Birding Road: 2 Montagu's Harrier, 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Kestrel, 1 Raven, 5 Red-rumped Swallow, House Martins, Barn Swallows, Skylarks, Crested Lark, 3 Cuckoo, 2 Tawny Pipit, 4 Stonechat, 1 Woodchat Shrike

Steppe Area: 100+ Yellow Wagtail, 1 Isabelline Wheatear, Skylarks,

Will prepare a site and systematic list of the birds we've seen in this area over the last few years.
