142 of 75 species last night on the first night of this current heatwave. Year list has shot up by 25 to 166 and all time list is now 561 with three potential garden ticks last night (awaiting verification). Here's a few that got me scratching my head with some preliminary identifications.
Spruce Carpet was the closest I could get
Tinted Tubic, Crassa tinctella. If correct id, this would be new for the garden.
Flame Neb, Chrysoesthia drurella a species, not illustrated in Sterling et al which is quite similar to Violet Cosmet, Pancalia leuwenhoekella which is illustrated
Common Spruce Bell, Epinotia tedella. Another new for garden if correct identification.
Perhaps Buff (above) and Large Long-horn (below). The one above looks paler and more matt coloured with a reticulated edge to the hind-wing and quite a rounded apex whereas the one below looks like it has a sheen with a sharp edged forewing and an angular apex.
This was tiny (2mm or so) - no idea where to even start
Wasn't sure whether this was a Dark-barred Twist or a Cnephasia sp
A nice easy one and a migrant too- Diamond-back Moth. Five Green Oak Tortrix too which are appearing as migrants on the South Coast but could be local here.
