This weekend- London Wetland Centre and Beddington Farmlands

London Wetland Centre
Bittern and Grey Heron
Male Wigeon- a few had green patches on the chestnut head- this one with patches around the eye, crown and particularly the neck. Presumably as so many birds had green patches it was some kind of normal variation that I've never noticed before.
Jaff and Lee looking onto the main lake
Me, Rach, Helen and Jaff
Some of the tree work that Little Oak did recently at the LWC

Spent this morning with Garry and Gordon at the farmlands, had 5 Jack Snipe, 20+ Snipe, 3 Stonechat and 3 Water Pipit.  Jaffa and Helen are down this weekend, visited the Beddington obs yesterday and today we all  (Lee and  Rach too) went to the Wetland Centre- 1 Bittern, 60+ Lapwing, 1 Peregrine, 2 Peregrine and good numbers of Wigeon and Shoveler. Yesterday morning Sid and I went Jack Snipe hunting at the farmlands:

Peter,
Green in the head of Wigeon seems much more prominent in Japan so possibly the birds are of a more eastern origin!
Cheers,

Hi Gordon,
Sounds like a possibility - never noticed it before but I can't remember seeing Wigeon so well- they were just in front of the hide.
Certainly would be interested to find out more.
Cheers Gordon
