The Balkan Ecology Project- Edible Horse Shoe Bed

 This unit comprises a horse shoe shaped bed around a lawn area with a centred Peach Tree. With a multi-layered planting scheme of herbs, shrubs and trees, the bed is comprised of Comfrey, Strawberries, Phlomis, Lovage, Fennel as the herb layer. The fruit layer is of successive fruiting Eleagnus (also nitrogen fixing support), Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Goji Berries and Blackcurrant. The trees include Peach, Quince, Cherry and a coppiced Mullberry. Lavender and Buddliea fringe the area and volunteer Mints are also in the bed. This area is good for invertebrates.
