Heron sp.

I took thse shots of a heron flying over Beddington on May 2nd earlier this year. I thought it looked like a Purple Heron and forgot all about it until now as I was going through my photos. It was extremely high and migrating towards the northeast. It still looks like one to me. Any comments?

Couldn't rule it out on these pics.

Looks good for a Purple Heron to me, Peter. Feet look longer than on Grey (but I'm not sure if that's a distinguishing feature) and that bill looks longer than on Grey.

The bill looks really long, the dark streaking is extensive on the underparts and in the top pic there is a reddish colour evident. Also the wing profile looks good for Purple in the spread wing shot. Enough to clinch it?

I think you should certainly add that one to your year list, Peter.
