November migrants

 Woodpigeons- over 4000 today

 Juvenile Garganey- still present on the Southern Lake

 Good numbers of waterfowl- 100+ Teal, 1 Garganey, 60+ Shoveler, 95 Gadwall, 14 Pochard, 20+ Tufted Duck, 6 Wigeon, 24 Mute Swan

Gull numbers building up- how many here?

 

A good visible migration day today: 4000+ Woodpigeon, 9 Skylark, 25+ Meadow Pipit, 5 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing, 4 Mistle Thrush, 6 Stock Dove, 1 Siskin, 8 Pied Wagtail and 20+ Chaffinch. Bullfinch, Chiffchaff and Cetti's on the deck and good numbers of waterfowl. Peregrine, Sprawk and Kes.

Short-eared Owl

Short-eared Owl being mobbed  by crows (today from the window- thanks Roger!)  - good to see the farmlands mascot at the farmlands

Two Mandarin (yesterday)- a local rarity

November moth sp (up to four a night in recent mild evenings). Also Rusty-dot Pearl.

Corvo 2014

So that's the end of another Corvo season for me. My ten year anniversary on the island. What a difference a decade makes- I could hardly leave the guest  house due to knee problems and didn't find a single bird. However great to see so many people taking up the batons and gave me a chance to sort out some improvements for our projects on the Azores (Azores Nature). Here's some pics from the birding season:

A couple of new birds in the village today- a Yellow-billed Cuckoo and a Blackpoll Warbler. Blackpoll was an Azores tick for me but I still haven't seen the Northern Shrike which would be another tick.

We did Katt's (the Guesthouse manageress) list yesterday and she's approaching 50 species including a few WP megas.
