July Micros

People often put posts up on social media depicting a stunning looking micro moth, declaring that those who don't look at micros are missing out in life. This is NOT one of those posts.  However it's a gift if you can find interest in them-  about 1500 species to 'collect' in the UK providing endless opportunities to disappear down the rabbit hole in your back garden (ultra low carbon) so at least its better than looking at stuff in shops. The bonus is some of them are actually most beautiful and after a while all of them start becoming interesting and fascinating.

So here's a little work in progress, a photo note on the micro moths seen this July so I can refer to it next July instead of going through the same pain every July of re-learning them :-). This doesn't include all the ones I've already memorised, just the ones that I'm still trying to get to stick.  Identifications provisional (best guesses) and will try and work this into something more accurate with feedback.

Acleris laterana/comariana
Cherry Fruit Moth, Argyresthia pruniella
One of the Dioryctria- this one was relatively small and simple so could be simplicella? Update 270722- cant be done from photo. See comments from Dave here
Zeriphera isertana?
Italian Tubic
Caloptilia sp, maybe something like cuculipennella
One of the groundlings, Gelechiids . Update 180722. Probably not, these might be Blastobasis rebeli and if so, so are several other photos below.
Cinereous Neb, Bryotropha terrella
Another one of the Gelechiids
This seemingly 'all red' Knot-horn is presumably Beautiful Knot-horn Rdodophaea formosa or maybe Moitrelia obductella ? Update 270722- yes it is the rather scarce Moitrelia obductella - see here
Another groundling . Nope. Update 180722- several of these photos are the same species Blastobasis rebeli. I better memorise this one so I don't string them for Gelechiids in future. (Thanks Stephen).
Maybe Gypsonoma minutana
Gorse Crest, Brachmia blandella
I presume this is a Bud moth of the dark form
Another groundling/Gelechiid. Update 180722. Nope probably Blastobasis rebeli. Presumably a worn one.  (Thanks Stephen)
Bud moth
One of the Caloptilia
A Phycitodes? Saxicola/maritima ?
Maybe Nut Bud Moth, Epinotia tenerana
Presumably a washed out Acrobasis
Another Caloptilia, maybe hemidactylella
A worn Aethes, these are usually beatricella
Endothenia marginana? 040123- need high quality photos of these.
Acorn Piercer, Pammene fasciana - a few distinctive features showing including the two spots near the dorsum juxtaposed to traverse lines and dashes towards the ternum. Also the palps are very short and typically a large area of unbroken pale along the dorsum.
Maybe a Little Conch, Cochylis dubitana
Marjoram Crest, Acompsia schmidtiellus ?
Another groundling . Update 180722. This could actually be Blastobasis rebeli so not a groundling at all. (Thanks Stephen Palmer).
Blastobasis lactiocolella
Not sure . Maybe a Little Dwarf here
An Oegoconia
Waste Grass-veneer, Pediasia contaminella
One of the Metzneria
Maybe a dark Diamond-back Marble, Eudemis profundana
Dark Ash Bud Moth, Prays Ruficeps
Another Dioryctria, maybe sylvestrella . Update 270722, might not even by the right genus and they can't be done on photos. See here
One of the Phyllonorycter. Maybe a Hornbeam Midget, P.tenerella  here
Probably a Willow Ermine- they occur regularly in the county and the dark area framed by pale margins on the sparsely spotted forewing are good indicative features
Maybe a Vetch Sober, Aproaerema anthyllidella. Yes I got this one right (Thanks Stephen Palmer for confirmation).
Maybe Birch Marble,  Apotomis betuletana
Hawthorn Cosmet, Blastodacna hellerella
Endothenia marginana?
Maybe Grapholita janthinana
Swammerdamia/Paraswammerdamia - the white head and grey thorax suggests P.nebulella
Zelleria hepariella ?
Cypress Groundling, Gelechia senticetella (Thanks Stephen Palmer for id). At Steve's. Probably a lifer.
Maybe Teasle Marble, Endothenia gentianaeana
Little Conch , Cochylis dubitana
Small Dingy Tubic, Borkhausenia fusescens
Gelechiid, update 240722, this is Bryothropha affinis (thanks Stephen)
Don't know (above and below), although one below could be another G.janthinana

Don't know, maybe one of the Dichorampha or Bactra
Poplar Shoot, Gypsonoma oppressana
Golden Argent Argyresthia geodartella
Purple Argent, Argyresthia albistria
Pale Lettuce Bell, Eucosma conterminana?
A dark form of Apple Leaf Miner
Sycamore Piercer, Pammene aurita . Also had a couple of these coming to the Raspberry Clearwing Pheromone lure.
Gelechiid- actually might be a micro caddis (it is a micro caddis- thanks Stephen)
Gelechiid - update 240722- another Cypress Groundling (thanks Stephen Palmer).
Dark Groundling, Bryotropha affinis
Winter groundling, Scrobipalpa costella (dark morph)
Maybe a Regal Piercer, Pammene regiana
Horse Chestnut Leaf Miner- but there are several very similar looking species
Might just be a well marked Common Grey, Scoparia ambigualis- its got the x marks with the adjacent dark mark on the cost and  the two oblongs marks under the first cross line
maybe one of the Dichorampha or Bactra
An Elachista?
A Notocelia
