Balkan Ecology Project- Bird walk

Juvenile Red-backed Shrike, saw 10-15 Red-backs along a short section at the back of Plot 2
House Martins on the Church (juveniles with dull caps, grey throats and suffused underparts)
 Adult Common Buzzard
Honey Buzzard. Also Sparrowhawk and Booted Eagle in the local area.

Went birding with some of the polyculture study group (Peter, Trish and Alex) yesterday morning. We started off in the woodlands around the church- A few woodland birds including Green Woodpecker (seen seven species of Woodpecker here in the past), Marsh Tit, Spotted Flycatcher, Nuthatch, Treecreeper and then we walked along the base of the ridge north of Plot 2. This area is a mosaic of old small fields, orchards, small farms and wasteland. We had Red-backed and Woodchat Shrikes, Sombre Tit, Corn Buntings, Red-rumped Swallow and Golden Orioles.

Recently in the local area I've had Isabelline Wheatear, Black-headed Wagtail, Booted Eagle, Short-toed Eagle, Honey Buzzard, Black and White Storks, Syrian and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Turtle Doves, Cuckoo, Tawny Pipits, Crested Larks, Cirl Bunting and Alpine Swifts.

 Corn Bunting
Tawny Pipit

Loads of butterflies and inverts- a lot of good work to do.
