First taste of autumn?

Little Ringed Plover displaying and preparing to breed
Common Sandpiper (heading north or south?)
Sicus ferrugineus (tick of the day)- nasty looking thing but apparantely harmless unless your a bumblebee

The first autumn Green Sandpiper was at the farm today, the last one being seen in early May. Perhaps a failed breeder or a first summer bird but nonetheless the first to return. Also a Common Sandpiper- which could be going either way. Some birds are still coming in with Swallows still on the move and plenty of birds are still preparing to breed like the Little Rings- two pairs now displaying over the lakes. Spring, summer and autumn all mixed up.

Garganey

Male Garganey
Male Lapwing
Fox
Hoverfly sp?

I possibly had one get away from me this morning- thought I clearly heard the simple song of a Common Rosefinch twice but failed to see it. The male Garganey that Johnny found yesterday is still around and also there are 6 Ringed Plover and 4 Little Ringed Plover on the lakes. Frankie had a Wheatear and also there were about 10 Swallows so migrants are still moving in.
A few more young birds are about too- Pied Wagtails today and plenty of young Tree Sparrows. At least three pairs of Gadwall still and 2 pairs of Shelduck .
Quiet in the moth trap- the evenings have got cool now and not a lot flying.

The Obs Upgrade

New bugry/lab

Window moth trap
Finished off the new bug room now which leaves me with a zero bedroom flat after I turned bedroom one into a library/office and bedroom two into a moth trap/lab. When I come to sell it I'll put it up as
Observatory/Flat, O Bedrooms, 1 lab/moth trap room, 1 library/office, 1 sofa bed, 'posh' loft and observaton area over looking lakes- ideal for 1-2 naturalists (one in the loft and one on the sofa).

More obs stuff here:

June

Red Kite and corvids
Adela crosella

Almost half way through the year. Red Kite, 6 Ringed Plover, 1 Common Tern, 2 LRP and Shelducks prospecting the boxes was the birding highlights of this morning.
Roger found this long horn moth- a new one for me. Moth list now on 157 and Beddington Biodiversity list on 726.
Not a lot else on this rather cool and grey June morning.
